>How much of an ordeal was porting the post database from vi to js, if I may ask?
it was pretty involved :^p
of all the tasks involved in the overhaul, writing and testing the migration tool probably took the longest. as far as I know, I'm the first person to do this! you can view it on the site's github repo, released under the AGPL-3: https://github.com/Marzisoft/jschan/blob/main/tools/vichan_import.js

the tool is fairly rough and doesn't handle every feature or edge case - given that it's already served its purpose for marzichan, I don't have any plans to develop it further right now, but it should be a pretty useful foundation for other sites that might be looking to migrate. you can read the comments inside the file for some basic instructions, disclaimers, known gaps in functionality, etc.

Yeah, I figured.... Since most would be content with a "fuck it, fresh start" and wiping everything out when switching board software.
Kudos on the elbow grease and how it all seems to have worked out!

thanks! I've been able to contribute several fixes back upstream to jschan as well, which has been very gratifying :D

really enjoy the new look! kudos for managing to port everything over while moving to a new engine, i know all too well how much of a pain that can be.
in any case i hope this site continues to grow... it's really nice!

aw, thanks so much!! I wasn't expecting you to visit today :D
>i know all too well how much of a pain that can be.
yeah, I remember reading how wapchan used to run on lynxchan before switching to vichan. I had actually started messing around with lynxchan myself before I looked into jschan more and decided it was the way to go!
do you mind if I ask what motivated the switch? I don't think I ever used the site back when it was running lynxchan
>in any case i hope this site continues to grow... it's really nice!
us too! you're too kind :)
wapchan is already much faster and larger than us, so I know you don't need my encouragement, but I hope you guys can keep healthily growing too <3

marzichan is now friend sites with hikari3!

their site is one of the most thoroughly custom-feeling altchans that I've seen out there! their mascot emoticons are very cute and make it super easy to be expressive, and their community is very fun and friendly.
both of our sites are modern imageboards trying to create a fun and friendly space, and I think the differences that we do have complement each other nicely, so I hope this partnership will strengthen us both. please visit sometime and show them some love :3
may we both prosper!!

I swear this website spontaneously breaks every couple of weeks. If it wasn't so inactive I would be suspicious

maybe we can it honor it when we put the old site to rest. it lived a long life - actually, I think it was well over 10 years old...

forgot to mention it in a post, but I added it a couple days ago :)

thank you both so much for your contributions! :D
one of the smaller changes that I added in the site overhaul was support for hi-dpi banners! right now there's only one, the LISA banner from !shroomyssg.

300x100 is the minimum resolution for banners, but I highly encourage anyone who's considering making a banner to go for a higher 3:1 resolution instead, like 600x200 - the extra resolution makes a huge difference on mobile displays!

if you're not sure about getting the scaling right, I'll happily accept project files and work with you to produce the best version possible. thank you all so much!

for whatever stupid reason, Comcast is blocking here with their xfi security garbage thing...

they have a report page to mark sites for unblocking, and apparently it takes a fair few requests to get through

when i get time, ill send a report for BitDefender since i was the one that encountered it. do you think this issue will persist when the marzichan 2 launches?
>>253
thanks! hopefully we don't get hit with spam right before they check, and then get downgraded to an even worse rating (^^;)
>do you think this issue will persist when the marzichan 2 launches?
I imagine it'll make no difference, yeah. it's tied to the domain name and I'm guessing there are no automatic processes for re-checking blocked domains, so even if I serve a completely different site, it'll remain blocked on their end until they change it.

if this is an issue with your home network, you could always change your pc config (assuming the router they provide doesn't let you change its DNS servers) to use non-xfinity DNS servers, like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8
>>254
I actually use 8.8.8.8 (and the corresponding ipv6 address) for my DNS and it seems to not do anything.

if we had another domain, even if like, a third level domain since buying two domains for one site seems incredibly silly, I suspect that would get around it
>>255
>it seems to not do anything.
huh, my bad, I had assumed it was done at the DNS level. is there really no way to disable the feature on your own home network? either way, that sucks
>if we had another domain, even if like, a third level domain
hmm, good idea. maybe when the site overhaul is done I'll add one (hopefully without much trouble), and we can see if it helps for affected users. thanks for the idea!
>>255
figured there was no reason to wait for the overhaul since this was an easy thing to do, so I've added a new third-level domain just for this purpose, https://alt.marzichan.org
please let me know if it works for you next time you have the chance :)

the reply limit before threads are bumplocked has been raised from 250 to 500
ysg-gus02.png
[Hide] (99.3KB, 320x320)
Get used to that size, and once it starts feeling limited again you'll know it's time to upgrade.
>>260
eww MOOOOM ANON IS BEING WEIRD IN MY ROOM AGAIN
I don't think we'll go past 500 for the forseeable future. threads with a bunch of images can be fairly slow to load if they get too long - compare the snappiness of opening a new thread vs one with 1000 posts
Ah, roight. Bit of a bigger concern on a site where users are intended to make full use of the catalog.

Why does marzimin not delete spam threads?

we tend to delete most spam threads, but for the ones you've listed, they're interesting enough to warrant discussion or some other activity of posting. besides, there's no concrete rule against advertising (yet?)
>>241
basically this :^p
I appreciate the people who reported them as spam, but if the post itself is innocuous and it's only spam in the sense that it was also posted to a bunch of other IBs, sometimes I like to try leaving it up and letting marzinons check it out or riff on it - the UFO thread is a fun example :)

there are currently no rules against advertising, though that could change in the future!
I don't browse a super wide variety of altchans, so maybe it's more tiresome to see the spam posts if you've already seen them on like 4 other sites (^^;)
>>242
I find it funny that the desuchannel thread is still up despite dying a week after launching
